A visit to the Hawaiian Sea Spirits Distillery – Kula Maui
Another great YELP event brought us up to this beautiful spot in the country, on the slopes of Haleakala, between Kahului and Kula.
The farm sits on 80 acres, where they grow heirloom organic sugar cane to produce some of the world’s most unique vodka. With their own water well, and a big array of solar panels, they are striving to be self sustainable as much as possible.
Did you know there are 100 varieties of sugar cane around the world? Most of them come from Polynesia, and many kinds are grown here at the farm. Sugar cane is a fast growing crop, and that’s why they can grow enough here to make all the vodka and rum they produce.
Their other unique ingredient is deep ocean water from the Big Island, rich in healthy minerals. It’s an expensive addition to the final product, but this is how the name Ocean Vodka comes about. When you tour the facility, you’ll get a chance to taste this super mineralized water, along with the vodka.
Visit the Hawaiian Sea Spirits website and learn more about them and the products.
TAKE A LOOK THROUGH THIS GALLERY: THE GROUNDS; DISTILLERY; TASTING STATION.
Pictured at left is the little gift shop where you can pick up bottle of their products, t-shirts, and other souvenirs.
