Baldwin Beach Cleanup was a success – International Surfing Day 2019

beach cleanup day maui

The Surfrider Foundation and Hawaii Life teamed up to bring you this community event for International Surfing Day 2019.  We had a good turnout and a small mountain of trash was picked up and bagged.  The Surfrider people then take it all back to a warehouse where it’s weighed and sorted and disposed of properly.  They’ll tally up the totals for the whole country and come up with statistics each year to help get a handle on this issue.

UPDATE: At Baldwin Beach Park for International Surfing Day, we had over 100 volunteers come out and picked up 2,110 lbs of garbage and 114 lbs of recyclables.

Awareness of plastic pollution is becoming widespread, and it’s leading to some positive changes in how we view our products and our environment.  We can all make a difference by making small changes in our lives.
