Aloha Classic Maui – The annual windsurfing contest that brings out the best of the best just finished up here on the north shore, with some spectacular waves and lots of great action. I stopped in one day to get some footage, but unfortunately the waves were so big they put the contest on hold. While we were all waiting for conditions to improve I had to make do with some shots of the beach scene, including some of the competitors hanging out and waiting. It turns out that they never did go back in the water that day, Tuesday the 29th.
Here’s a couple of short videos from the event. The first one I put together from that afternoon with the closed out surf. The next one I found on YouTube and it shows the highlights of what I missed earlier in the day. You just never know what you might see when you stop in at Ho’okipa Beach Park.
And here’s a link to the official PWA website for more details on this sporting event and more around the world.
After the five day contest was over, the results were in:
- Sarah-Quita Offringa of Aruba – won the women’s competition
- Antoine Martin of France – top pro men’s single-elimination winner and overall International Windsurfing Tour men’s wave champion
- read all about it in the Maui News
