I’d driven by many times, but never stopped in.  Somebody mentioned labyrinth and I looked up on Yelp that they have 2 here at the Sacred Garden in Makawao.  We needed a short diversion with our Canadian visitors and we took the scenic drive from Haiku.  It was late in the afternoon and I wasn’t sure if they’d be open still.

It was a pleasant surprise to find they were open, and it was more fun than we expected.  We started in the small building which houses a gift shop, reading room, and eclectic plant nursery. All kinds of interesting containers spill forth with plantings of succulents and vines and tropical flowers.  Baskets filled with flowers.  Ornaments from around the world.  Such a great array of special and unique gifts.

There’s a small labyrinth inside to get started, before heading out to the larger one by the stream.  It was fun to walk the stone lined path and hear the trickling water in the brook, all under the jungle canopy.  I can understand how this can bring calmness in a busy world.

We had a good time at our own pace, and could have stayed longer but had another place to go.  I’d recommend this garden and gift shop for locals to bring their visitors when looking for something different on Maui.  Our friends thought it was really worthwhile.  I was able to order a jade vine, which aren’t so easy to find, and was notified a few months later when one was ready for pick up – grown from seed.
