Jollibee just opened up in Kahului, and Yelp was there on opening day to commemorate the event and try out all the good food. Some Yelpers were treated royally on the spot, and we all received generous gift cards so we could pick up a bucket or two of their famous fried chicken to go. Jollibee is a big deal in the Philippines, and every Filipino on Maui was anxiously awaiting this new addition to the fast food scene. Would you believe people camped out overnight in front of the store, so they could be the first ones in the door when they opened? Watch the live news coverage that morning.
We’ve eaten there twice now, if you count the take out service one day and an in-store visit another day. No complaints about all the things we tried: fried chicken; chicken sandwich; fries; gravy; buttered corn; adobo rice; and the pineapple quencher. Apparently the buckets of chicken only contain dark meat – thighs and drumsticks, and the chicken sandwich is white breast meat… (where are the wings?) They have other items on the menu, such as spaghetti, palabok, mashed potatoes, hamburgers, hamburger steak, and peach/mango hand pies. Other location have an expanded menu, and perhaps this outlet will offer more once they get past this newness hurdle.
They’re in the Maui Marketplace shopping center on Dairy Road, which was once anchored by Lowe’s and Sports Authority. The center is going through a transition with new tenants coming on board to join Office Max and Old Navy who have weathered the downturn. Kaukau Corner on the opposite side stills serves up a variety of great local food choices in the food court. Plenty of free parking for everyone.
The service was over the top, with so many staff on hand to make sure the first encounters were pleasant and smooth. The place was packed solid the first week, with handlers outside controlling the line of people getting in, but taking orders while you waited in line. It was quite funny to see so much pent up demand for a fast food restaurant that I’d never heard of before. There’s a whole lot of buzz about this Jollibee food!
Kahului neighborhoods – If you’re thinking about real estate in the area, Kahului has a lot to offer . Some of the nicer neighborhoods with properties for sale are: The Island, The Bluffs, Grand Fairways, and Sand Hills. I’m happy to help you with any questions about the neighborhoods and real estate market.

Georgie – I remember when Jollibee opened in the Los Angeles area and it was met with much anticipation and long lines.
