The Dragon’s Teeth at Makaluapuna Point
A really interesting natural rock formation worth seeing on Maui can be found just an easy 5-10 minute walk from the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua. Park at the end of the road, and walk across the end of the golf course. It will likely be sunny and windy, so be prepared. Good shoes are a plus since the ground will be rough and uneven.
The long narrow peninsula juts into the sea like a dragon’s lower jaw, complete with a long row of huge jagged teeth. This point offers great views in all directions. The crashing surf against the sharp rocks is dramatic and exhilarating. You might spot some sea turtles bobbing in the crystal clear waters.
A grassy circular labyrinth covers a flat area in the middle of the point, causing one to wonder what the story is here.
Nearby attractions include Oneloa Beach to the west, and D. T. Fleming Beach to the east. Kapalua is well known for luxury resorts like the Ritz-Carlton and Montage at Kapalua Bay. High-end neighborhoods include Kapalua Ironwoods, and The Residences at Kapalua Bay.
