The latest word from the Maui County Planning Department regarding Agricultural zoned lands.

At the recent Kula Community Association meeting, Planning Director Michele McLean spoke to over 100 people about issues concerning the community.  Land use, roads, water, were some of the topics.  One thing they know for sure, they want to make it easier for farmers on Maui.

SOME IMPORTANT POINTS:

Farm Plan –  No longer a requirement to get your farm plan recorded at the Bureau of Conveyances. A plan can now be flexible and change as needed without filing paperwork.  Farmers don’t have to be locked in to an outdated plan.  Signing of a declaration regarding the rules of Ag land use will be required.

Second Dwelling – There’s a high probability that the maximum size for the “farm workers dwelling” will be increased to 1,500 square feet from the current 1,000 square feet.

Upcountry Water – The flow will most likely continue for homeowners upcountry serviced by the Kamole treatment plant, despite legal issues over water rights.
