The condos lining Maalaea Bay are due for an update of their aging wastewater system. Most of these buildings were built in the 1970’s when laws were more lax, and injection wells currently dump thousands of gallons of wastewater out to sea. It’s not the best way of dealing with the problem, and things are changing. Federal regulations are becoming more stringent and will only get more so in the future. Maybe it’s time for a wastewater treatment plant.
The Maalaea Village Association is seeking a solution by getting homeowners, the community and the government involved in discussions. Read more in the Maui News online….
